Lots of mowing today.

I started the day by mowing the circle in Oneco. That went as well as always. When I got home I mowed the lawn for the 3rd time in a week. It finally looks normal. Then I had to go to the Brooklyn field to return the mower so I hooked up and mowed the runway. All the engines started quickly and within the first 50 feet the eye bolt on the red mower broke. I pushed it out of the way and finished the runway using two mowers. It took 25 minutes. When I got home I went about fixing the red mower using a larger eye bolt and "U" bolt on the mower deck. All told I cut 2.15 acres of grass today.

Home again home again, what the frig?

We spent the last ten days in La. Lots of flying and trimming sessions plus the bull. I mailed two boxes home and one arrived crushed and taped up but all the small parts were missing. The  carb. made it which was the main piece. The trip home was scheduled with a 2 hour layover in Atlanta which is a good piece incase of weather. The plane out of Baton Rouge had a problem in Atlanta and was 2 hours late. We arived at Atlanta at the scheduled departure time of the next flight and missed it. The airline had already put us on the next flight to Providence and that was set to leave  6 hours later. We got to see a lot of the airport in that time. We sat at the gate for 35 minutes past the departure time for a minor problem with the plane. Once in the air we gotr to Providence at 11:30 and home at 0030.
I spent 3 hours mowing the lawn, the most ever. The grass had grown 6 inches with all the rain and now lays in clumps all over the place. It will take 2 or 3 more mowings to smooth it out. Mow the field day tomorrow and horseshoes at 6:00 pm.

Weed wacker challenge.

The weed wacker that was left at the field belongs to the club I found out. It was in rough shape as the pull starter was binding. I took it home and after a lot of tinkering got the starter working properly. I got the engine started but it wouldn't run without the choke mostly closed. Today I took the carb. off and cleaned it out but found one of the primer passages plugged. After a lot more tinkering and some drilling I got the passage cleared. Still the engine wouldn't run without priming and then only on the prime. I looked into the tank and saw the fuel line missing. I drained the tank and shook the clunk/filter out along with the tank cap tether. I had some  gas line from a model fuel tank that was for gas so I installed that on the clunk and feed nipple. The carb. adjustment screws didn't have a screwdriver slot but did have splines for a plastic cap. i used a piece of Nyrod that gripped the splines and I was able to turn the adjustment screws. It took a bit of doing but I got the engine started and adjusted. I ran it for a while trimming around the yard just to be sure the fix was working. After it cooled off for a while it restarted easy and I trimmed some more.
The new shed at the field is close to being ready. It only needs a lock on the roll up door and the mower will be stored inside. It was used as a food booth during the Gremlin contest. I'll bring some material to put on the floor to catch any oil leakage. They want to paint it yellow to match the wind sock.

Gremlin day.

The club held their first combat event using only the Gremlin model. I stayed for most of it and didn't see any mid air collisions. I bought a ticket for a Gremlin kit and went home. I got a call a few hours later saying I had won the kit. I said draw another ticket I can't use the kit. I hope I'm not using up my luck for the Baton Rouge raffle in Oct.
The weather was quite nice for the contest for a change but more rain is expected later in the week.
