Update and new finds and fixes.
The landing gear fix on the Oosa plane is working very well. I have several flights on it and it's holding up well.
During the repair process a piece of the original landing gear system had broken off and was trapped inside the wing. I could hear it rattling around when I turned the wing up on end. I got the painted shut tip weight hatch open and was able to get the piece out. All is well.
I've been flying the Oos plane to get ready for the El Dorado contest. The LA .46 engine started to run bad. I couldn't figure it put but evidence pointed at vibration. After several flights and attempted fixes i removed the engine and found that the brass threaded inserts I used in the motor mounts to install the engine were pulling out. So no matter how much I tightened the hold down bolts the inserts were still loose. I had built the plane for the Super Tiger .51 engine but I had sent it out for serviceing. So I used the inserts and installed the LA .46. I finally got the .51 back as the tech. had made a mistake in my email address. I put that engine back on the Oosa plane as I had used "T" nuts and not inserts and balanced it with clay on the tail.
Cool and rainy and breezy today so no test flights.
The other planbe I call "Carpet Bagger" was made using the extra ribs from the J.D. Falcon kit. I installed the Ebay .51 in that plane and swapped the ringed piston and liner for the ABC piston and liner that was in the engine I sent for service. I installed the ringed piston and liner in the serviced engine when that came back. I was smart enough to only send the crankcase and crankshaft for bearing replacement so when I bought the Ebay engine and was waiting for the other one I changed parts. Don't ask why.
